EXHIBITION: LIFE ON THE BORDERS, CAKE ROOM, HASTINGS, SEPTEMBER
I’ve been making lots of botanically inspired, photo based art works exploring themes like the human relationship to nature and also plant migration & bio-diversity and 7 of these images will on show & for sale as limited edition prints throughout September.
The works on display are selected from 2 different series’":
Border Control, which considers plant migration and diversity. How, for example, would the huge range of native and non-native plants and flowers found in Sussex and the UK exist if borders were in place that prevented them from spreading via seed and roots?
Towards A New Botanical Art explores the human connection and relationship to plants and flowers, using a kaleidoscopic view to look at their shape and form in a new way. In presenting plants in this way, the viewer is able to find their own meaning and symbolism in them. Indicated by the titles of the individual works, I have attributed my own meaning to each plant, inspired in part by Victorian Floriography.
Launching September 1st with 10% off prints + themed cocktails courtesy of the very clever Lauren at Cake Room. 🎥
Also a series of films curated by Vanessa in the basement.
Also couldn’t resist making a playlist which fits with the title of the exhibition “Life On The Borders” - includes music by Kid Krule, M.I.A, Bonobo & Nitin Sawhney.
See you throughout September in good ol’ Hastings town.
See below for exhibition location.
