Photos of Magick Hastings Film Premiere

8 years as a resident of Hastings and one of the things that I’ve learnt about the town is that Hastings is weird and Hastings is magick. It’s these qualities (along with community) that make it such a great place.

When writer, broadcaster and fellow Hastings resident Michael Smith told me a few months ago about visiting St Clements caves, underneath the West Hill, it was quite a story. He’d visited the caves as part of a feature for the brilliant independent magazine Get Hastings. Fast forward a few months later and he and Beth King had come up with a whole 45 minute film inspired by the caves, but which delved further into the wider “esoteric underbelly” of the town.

On Halloween weekend, the film was premiered back in the caves and I was invited to document it. With tarot readers, light installations from Zeroh and experimental music and DJs, the premiere reflected and complimented the film and made for a suitably weird and wonderful event.
