Remembering Andrew Weatherall

“It’s been a while since a young lady has said “lovely” while taking a photo of me”

So shocked and sad to hear about the passing of Andrew Weatherall today. I was lucky to meet him on a few occasions. He was clever and funny…the driest sense of humour (as illustrated by the quote at the top).

In recent years he supported and worked with friends of mine in Crystal Palace, releasing their music through his and Nina Walsh’s label Moine Dubh and participating in intimate gigs in the area.

My social media feeds today are full of praise and admiration for the man widely known as “The Guvnor.” It seems he reached out to so many music heads over the years to give them a pat on the back or a thumbs up. He was an absolute titan of music who shaped so much of the UK’s modern musical heritage yet was never too big to support the wider music community and next generation of sound makers.

I am gutted that I will never get to go to another brilliant ALFOS night, or to Convenanza. I am gutted for music. More than anything, I am gutted for his close friend’s and family. If that’s you and you’re reading this, I and SO many people are thinking of you right now.

Rest In Peace Andrew,

Georgie
